Neuropsychological Assessment

WHAT IS NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT?

It is an assessment of cognitive functions with standardized tests. It offers in-depth understanding of cognitive functions, behavior, personality and emotional state. It gives us a clear picture of strengths and weaknesses that helps in the diagnosis, treatment and in the improvement of the quality of life.

WHY DOES A NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT TAKE PLACE?

Α. WHEN THERE IS A SUSPECTED DISORDER

Difficulties in:

To facilitate diagnosis and plan a treatment program adjusted to the strengths and weaknesses of the specific patient.

Β. WHEN THERE IS A KNOWN DISORDER

Neurodegenerative Disease

Brain Lesions

Psychiatric Disorder that influences
cognition

Children and Adolescents

In this case, we want to see which functions are affected and to what extent. The first assessment sets the basis upon which we compare the patient’s performance in the subsequent assessments (usually every six months-1 year) in order to formulate a treatment plan based on the patient’s strengths and weaknesses but also help the physician to assess the disease progression and decide upon pharmaceutical treatment.
